Traditional tumescent liposuction of the abdomen is performed under local or general anaesthesia, depending on the extent of the area being treated. The entire procedure takes 1–2 hours and follows a precise plan drawn up during the pre-operative consultation.

The procedure

The plastic surgeon first marks the areas with excess fat and determines the locations for the tiny incisions. He or she then injects the treatment areas with a tumescent solution – a special mixture of fluid containing an anaesthetic and adrenaline.

This solution numbs the subcutaneous fat, constricts blood vessels and minimises bleeding. After approximately 30 minutes, once the fat has liquefied, the surgeon inserts thin liposuction cannulas connected to a suction device.

The cannulas are moved under the skin in a controlled manner and gradually suction out the loosened fat. The plastic surgeon works with precision to create harmonious contours and prevent unevenness. The layered technique ensures the even removal of fat from various depths of the subcutaneous tissue.

After the procedure

Once the suction process is complete, the surgeon cleans the treated areas and applies special compression garments, which must be worn for 4–6 weeks. The compression promotes healing, reduces swelling and helps the skin adhere to the underlying muscles.

The effects of the anaesthetic last for approximately 20 hours, so you will experience minimal pain immediately after the procedure. Scars from liposuction are small and almost invisible once healed.

If there is an excessive amount of sagging skin, particularly following significant weight loss or childbirth, the plastic surgeon may recommend a combination of liposuction and skin removal to achieve the best possible result.

After the procedure, you can usually go home accompanied by a loved one and continue your recovery in the comfort of your own home.

Abdominal liposuction using both laser and conventional methods

Tumescent liposuction is one of the most common liposuction methods, but our clinic also offers alternative procedures, or a combination of several procedures in one.

It is therefore possible to combine tumescent and laser liposuction, or vibrating liposuction. Combining several procedures can have effects beyond mere fat reduction, such as stimulating collagen fibres, firming loose skin and reducing the risk of unevenness.
